Weird beahviour of Elwyn the Elf (dropping rations/berries out of storage when picking something to eat)

Saw this with octoberries before, this time its rations: Elwyn wants to get something to eat, but picks up 3-4 items from storage and drops them outside of it before finally taking one to actually eat it.
