Hunter using bow as a club despite having arrows.

My leader is my only hunter right now, he has a short bow and x17 arrows in his inventory. He has a hood that adds +2 to ranged, he has the ranged passive ability that adds another +2, this gives him a total of +6ranged. He has no opinion of bows. However, every time he attacks an animal he does it by walking right up to the critter and clubs him with his short bow.
