Magic and Steam as higher tech

End game really needs power.

First, steam:

Basic items:

  • Steam boiler
  • Steam pipe (modular)

Utilizing items:

  • Steam powered workshops (work much faster)
  • Steam heaters
  • Steam traps (cook enemy)

Then, magic:

Basic items:

  • Magic source (charge crystals with moonlight or ritual sacrifice or something)
  • Magic conduit
  • Magic storage (a big crystal from the depths of the earth). Magic would be slow to generate but you can compensate with storage?

Utilizing items:

  • Magical work benches. These would differ from steam powered ones in that they work better, not faster (higher quality output)!
  • Magical lights
  • Magical defenses
  • Magical space heaters and coolers
  • Portals would be cool, to teleport around your base


So the progression would be:

Manual operation -> Steam operation -> Magical operation

With enough differences between steam and magic so both have their place, coexisting in the same kingdom.
