Magic and Steam as higher tech
End game really needs power.
First, steam:
Basic items:
- Steam boiler
- Steam pipe (modular)
Utilizing items:
- Steam powered workshops (work much faster)
- Steam heaters
- Steam traps (cook enemy)
Then, magic:
Basic items:
- Magic source (charge crystals with moonlight or ritual sacrifice or something)
- Magic conduit
- Magic storage (a big crystal from the depths of the earth). Magic would be slow to generate but you can compensate with storage?
Utilizing items:
- Magical work benches. These would differ from steam powered ones in that they work better, not faster (higher quality output)!
- Magical lights
- Magical defenses
- Magical space heaters and coolers
- Portals would be cool, to teleport around your base
So the progression would be:
Manual operation -> Steam operation -> Magical operation
With enough differences between steam and magic so both have their place, coexisting in the same kingdom.
